Last week in ISM, I focused on setting the right path and solidifying which direction I should be heading in for my topic of Music Business for the second semester of our ISM journey. I read through many different articles in order to choose my research assessment topic, and came across an article called "How Digital Marketing is Transforming the Music Industry" which I was immediately pulled towards. It was a very straight to the point article about the effects of digitalization on artist promotion and advertisements in the music industry, and how different social media apps are getting verified as official platforms to count towards the Billboard streaming counts, and so on. This article provided a very good insight on the current climate of the music business industry due to COVID, and also related back to my original work such as widening the social marketing sector into more diverse types of sharing and distribution processes during the pandemic. The information from the article helped me realize that my final product could potentially be a stretch of my original work, due to the fact that my business plan is up to date and accommodating the current trends and demands of the music industry. It will be easy to analyze the current climate as well as to find a way of monetizing through the company that I created with a focus on certain types of technology. With all of this in mind, I will continue my research this week to dive deeper and gain ideas about my plans for this semester.
