Last week in ISM was a week of idea hunting and project researching. At the beginning of the week, I was pretty stressed on which direction I should be leading my original work on, being given such vast variety of options with no limits. I thought about different ways that I can incorporate music in business and tried to come up with a couple of ideas that could work as a long-term project. I focused on which aspect of the music industry that I love the most which was also part of the reason why I shifted my lens from production to business. I decided that I did not want to create my own music, but work in an environment where I am surrounded by music that I love listening to. Therefore, I chose to create my own music record label. I want to create a company where I manage startup or underground artists to help them succeed and promote themselves in bigger platforms. I want to effectively create a marketing strategy so that unknown artists can develop their career and fanbase globally. This would require me to have a good foundation on both music and entrepreneurship. A question that came to my mind was whether this business plan could possibly lead into my final product at the end of this year if I can somehow find an amateur musician to manage. The thought of this got me really excited because this was the exact kind of project that I always dreamed about taking on since I was younger. I am glad that my plans are coming into place piece by piece even though it is still the beginning of the year. My goals for this week is to set up two more interviews and successfully finish the business symposium on Thursday. I am glad to have the opportunity to connect with other ISM students and professionals, and I hope that everything goes just well as I truly wish.
